While driving uphill to the capital city, our bus had a minor 'fender bender' with the oil truck in front. After the very slight knock the driver refused to move to a more convenient spot until police arrived, causing a traffic jam on a single lane road for 45 minutes. Finally after police had arrived, both vehicles were moved to a wider piece of road, accident reports completed and we were on our way - again at least an hour delay to the original timing.
After putting our things down at the hostel we took a walk to get a feel for the city and I actually got hit by a bus! I'm not kidding! Ok so it wasn't full on but I was walking on the edge of the walkway with my arms bent at 90 degrees, hands on my hips and suddenly a bus drives passed and hits me on my left elbow with its open doors. The bus continued driving while I was left there in shock rubbing my elbow, grateful that nothing was broken.
We knew the stop in San Jose would be a quick one before moving further along to La Fortuna the following day.
