La Fortuna

La Fortuna is a neat little town right next to the famous Arenal Volcano. Had it not been for another round of diarrhea for poor old Geert we may have attempted to climb the volcano. Knowing however that there will be more volcanoes to come we decided to save that energy for another day. Instead we did the opposite and spent a day at the Baldi Hot Springs and Spa. Considering what you would pay in The Netherlands for something similar, we couldn't let the deal pass: 25 warm pools; water slides; water bars; nature trails and a 3 course meal for that really relaxed holiday feeling.

We were expecting to spend more time in Costa Rica but ended up moving through it pretty quickly to avoid hurting our budget too much. The feedback from people we met was very positive about beautiful, less-expensive and less-touristy Nicaragua and so we left La Fortuna on a 4 hour bus ride to the border to have a look for ourselves.
